James “Pete” Hendry, DVM
Dr. James Hendry (Dr. Pete) is a native of Roseland, Louisiana. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, a Master’s degree in Reproductive Physiology from Louisiana State University, and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1966. Dr. Pete’s first job after graduation was working in a mixed animal practice in Missouri for two years.
In 1968, Dr. Pete returned home to Louisiana and founded the General Animal Hospital in Covington which he operated for 34 years. In 2003, Dr. Pete came out of retirement to lend a helping hand at Ponchatoula Animal Hospital.
Dr. Pete’s special interest in veterinary medicine is preventative care. He is a member of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Association, and the Louisiana Academy of Veterinary Practice. Dr. Pete is also a member of Trinity Church in Covington.
Dr. Pete has been married to his wife, Martha, since 1962. They have 2 children and 6 grandchildren. His pet family includes a pack of beagles, 2 Shih Tzus, Pepper and Pickles, and one cat named Lilly. In his spare time, Dr. Pete enjoys golf and fishing, and he is an avid LSU sports fan.
